Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you, understand what brings you in, and discuss your goals for therapy. We will talk through your history, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from counseling so we can create a plan that feels supportive and personalized.

Do you accept insurance?

Given Guidance is primarily private-pay; however, your sessions may still be covered if you have a PPO insurance plan. At the end of each session, the client pays the full session fee, and at the end of each month, a document will be created with all of the necessary information for the client to submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. It is advised to contact insurance carriers prior to treatment for questions about the extent of reimbursement for an “Out of Network Provider.” Given Guidance Family Counseling DOES NOT submit this bill to insurance companies for you and cannot guarantee reimbursement.

How long does therapy usually last?

The length of therapy varies based on your needs and goals. Some clients come for short-term support (6–12 sessions), while others find continued therapy beneficial for deeper or ongoing growth. We will regularly check in to make sure therapy is aligned with your needs.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

We offer both. Our office is located in La Crescenta, CA for those who prefer in-person sessions, and we also provide secure virtual sessions for clients throughout California. You’re welcome to choose whichever format fits your schedule and comfort level.
